"My Big Defeat against Dwight-Englewood"

On October 16, 2012, my volleyball team had a lot at stake.
It was our last chance to qualify for states.
We hoped that they would be the ones to get baked.
But of course we happened to show up late.

It was up to me to call heads or tales.
More than half of the time I call the toss, I lose.
Thankfully my call did not fail.
My team was so excited to hear the good news.

We had beaten this team before but fell short the first game.
I tried to get my teammates to stay focused as much as possible.
The second game, we came out strong and we had our momentum to maintain.
The third game, Carly Lesko was the most reliable.

Our momentum had shifted after our chances grew higher.
Their best player missed her serve and they were in a slump.
At this point nothing could stop us because we were on fire.
The last point was all up to me and they could not return the ball with a simple bump.

We rejoiced and were ecstatic that we won.
It processed through my mind that we pulled off a big win.
We even did our usual group hug on the court with everyone.
I could see how happy everyone was by their grin.

  1. Congratulations on qualifying for states! I don't know if showing up late had any effect on your first game, but I know when I show up late to a match I feel rushed and get a bad start. The fourth stanza was definitely my favorite. Good luck in the rest of your season!
